April's Blog Post

Did you fall for it?

As is often the case some of our club officials treated us to an April Fools trick, or treat, depending on your point of view, thanks guys.

Pantref - Late March Update

Apologies, the summary in not sure how this was missed.

Some of our members travelled to Pentref to take part in the two day 3D shoot in Wales, where for a change it was dry and even sunny at times.

Ian Edwards won Gold in the AFB category.

Terry Edwards came eleventh in the Barebow category.

Steve Allam won Silver in the Traditional category.

Angus Relf won Bronze in the Traditional category.

Congratulations gentlemen, well done to you all, even if that congratulations is a little late.

Kendal 3D Competition Cut Short

A couple of our members made the long trip to Kendal for their 3D shoot, but with storm Kathleen passing the UK day two was abandoned with the scores of day one being used to form the results.

Ian Edwards taking 1st place in the AFB category.

Steve managed to take 2nd place in Traditional Category.

Congratulations and well done to you both.

Andover Saxon Shoot

Richard Buckner travelled to Andover to shoot in their event, shooting a 'York' round, which for those of you who don't know what that entails, a York consists of shooting onto a 122cm target using imperial scoring with 72 arrows shot at a target 100yards away, then 48arrows shot at a target 80yards away, then 24 arrows shot at a target 60yards away, many of us would struggle to hit a target 100yards away, but Richard managed to come away with every arrow scoring (one of just three to do so), which is no mean feat, and secured himself the 4th place spot. Well done Richard.

All British & Open Field Championships

Preparations began in earnest for the ABO which we are hosting on the 25th and 26th of May 2024. It is set to see more archers than ever before take part in the ABO, so we really do need all the help from any of our members who can spare us any time in the run up to he event.

On Saturday May 11th from around 9:30am or 10am to around midday, we will hopefully complete the final preparations to the course in The Warren, The Woods and The Coombe, which has to be seen to be believed!

If you can spare an hour or two to come along and help, please drop Steve Allam an email (tournaments@overtonblackarrows.org) if you can help - we would be most grateful for any help you can give.

Any extra helpers on the Saturday (25th) and especially Sunday (26th) would be most grateful, especially for our catering and hospitality team who are a little light on numbers on Sunday, so even if you can only come along for a couple of hours to take payment for food/drink, we would be most grateful for any help you can give.
